Yellow. Stop Three on the Rainbow.

Yellow is quite possibly the happiest color.  The color of sunshine.  Evoking a warm and Hugged feeling!  It is the perfect color to create enthusiasm for life is said to awaken confidence and optimism. Well, who couldn't use that from time to time!!

I have never used Yellow as the main star in any of my designs, however, I use it quite a bit as an accent.  Trim on furniture, in wallpaper ... and one of my most favorite treatments was when I used Benjamin Moore San Paolo Morning on my ceiling.  It gave a subtle sunshine warm glow to our kitchen even when the ground was covered in snow!

And while it hasn't been "my" star ... this kitchen from Monet's Giverny home in France might be the best use of this color EVER!!

I can imagine Monet's mornings here in this sun-washed space preparing to head outside to work his water lillies!

Yellow is always happy, and for me ... a little goes a long way!!

Orange. Stop Two on the Rainbow.

The Power Color.  Orange is joyous and thought to stimulate creativity.  For me ... it is just a happy color.  Bringing orange into a room makes it bright and cheerful.  This Master Bedroom, from my Peckham Hill project, is the perfect example of bringing in a strong color but not feeling garish because it is balanced by moody dark tones.  So rather than screaming ORANGE ... it whispers ... oh, come sit here and be happy!

This bedroom cocoons you with its' moody walls, and the orange brings in the light making it cheerful by day and cozy, warm by night.

Another one of my favorite projects Pleasant Street, features this fun boys bath.  The orange color scheme along with the turtles make it fun for a boy, but also grown up enough for a guest bath when needed.

Orange might be my absolute favorite color.  I can wear it, live in it and look at it unendingly!  One of my very first "real" projects, almost 10 years ago, was this one from Wyndstone Way where orange takes center stage!

Orange is powerful and happy!  Next time you need a little refresh ... think Orange!!  And just remember it truly is ... all in the MIX!

Guest Room. Girls Room.

Well ... #ProjectDownSize probably happened about 2 years to early.  Have I told you about this? Hmmm.  Erin was in college, Callie started college and Christopher was going to be a Senior in High School.  Only Sammy really left here full time.  Perfect timing don't you think? Well ...

No.  So Erin came home ... thankfully she is employed ... but at home, Callie comes and goes with college breaks and Christopher is a senior.  I got a lot of flack about closet space.  Too bad was my response.  Glad to have you all home, just be grateful and be quiet!!  And truth be told, we are now in our house for a year and everyone has adjusted.  Like really, we are close, but comfortable and they all worked out their issues.  Something to be said for a smaller house!!

This page torn out of a magazine has been on my inspiration board for years (I am sorry I have no idea who to credit).  It makes me smile.  But you all know me ... I need a little more color in this scenario.

I am dreaming of a guest room!  We have NEVER had a guest room, too many children!  And, please ... I love my children, but sometimes their design desires are far different from mine.  I found a toile at an antique shop in town and jumped on it.

The photo is a little strong ... it is really a beautiful mint and coral color combo that is soothing and just enough color for me to be able to pull off the neutral thing.  Understand?

I had no idea what I would do with it ... but it spoke to me.  It is the anchor of my new guest room.  By the way ... I still have two children in this room.  Still doing it!

I am working out the details because toile could be a little stuffy.  That is not me ... I have a few tricks up my sleeve that I will share as I move along!

Happy Weekend.  Make it good ... Prospects of a Nor'easter this weekend.  Yup.  Not digging it!
